Getting political on your ass

One of the many things Jehovah's Witnesses (that lovely cult I grew up in) do not do is participate in politics of any kind (supposedly). They are not allowed to vote, except on minor issues like taxes and ordinances (and many don't know they have that option).

Even before I rid myself of every belief they had pounded into me, I had registered to vote, and my first presidential election was 2004. What prompted me to register and vote? Watching an HBO movie called Iron Jawed Angels. I determined that I would not waste what so many had fought for.

One of the many issues I believe passionately about is the availability of safe abortions for women. It's THE deciding factor for me when I make my choice about who to vote for. I feel incredibly lucky to never have been faced with having to make the choice to terminate a pregnancy, but many women don't have such luck. (Don't make me repost this.)

So where does John McCain stand on this issue?

People, we are ONE Supreme Court Justice away from having Roe v. Wade overturned. ONE. If you're a Hillary Clinton supporter who refuses to vote for Barak Obama, you are an idiot. My horse (John Edwards) didn't even make the finals, so quit your bitching.

This a HUGE deal. McCain's reputation as a maverick Republican translates into a significant number of moderate Democrats who have the mistaken impression that McCain is pro-choice.

Get it straight people! John McCain wants to overturn Roe v. Wade.

Good post! When I saw Iron-Jawed Angels several years ago, I walked away with a great amount of guilt ... but of the good sort, in a way. I very much took for granted my "right" to vote. I think of how many women I know who choose not to vote, and it's sad and appauling.

It's also unfortunate that we're often forced to base our voting decisions on who is pro-choice/anti-choice. All I know is that there's going to be a lot less sex going on if RvW is overturned.
